RPS appoints new chair of education and standards committee

The Royal Pharmaceutical Society has appointed Dr Anthony Cox as chair of its education and standards committee.

Dr Cox, an RPS Fellow and former member of the English pharmacy board, heads up the University of Birmingham's school of pharmacy. He will oversee the committee that advises the RPS Assembly on the professional leadership body’s education and workforce strategy.

He directs the undergraduate pharmacy degree programme at UoB and has extensive experience teaching at postgraduate level.

He researches drug safety including medication errors and pharmacovigilance and is an honorary pharmacovigilance pharmacist at the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency’s Yellow Card centre in the West Midlands.

“I’m looking forward to working with the committee during this vitally important time for the education of the profession at all levels, and delighted to support the RPS in continuing to develop and deliver its important role in defining and assuring post-registration standards of pharmacy practice,” Dr Cox said.

RPS president Claire Anderson said: “I’d like to congratulate Anthony on his appointment as the new chair of the education and standards committee.

"He brings a wealth of education experience to the role and will champion the Society’s important role in leading and supporting the profession to deliver and continually improve patient care through impactful post-registration education and standards.”
